Material costs account for at least half of what we at ALPLA spend on the production of our packaging solutions. This alone is a great incentive for us to use materials responsibly. When purchasing virgin materials, we try to act as regionally as possible. In other words: We give preference to material suppliers worldwide that are located close to our plants. We source recycled materials both from our own recycling facilities and from material suppliers. Let me give you a little insight into our material usage. Of the just over 2 million tons of plastic we processed in 2020, nearly 54 percent was PET, about 39 percent was HDPE, just over 7 percent was PP and 0.3 percent was LDPE.
